Prototype 2 is a sequel to the game released in 2009 which featured an open world. Game was created by Radical Studio and developed by Activision-Blizzard.
This time, we play as a new character, James Heller, who lost his family due to an epidemic. According to an ex-soldier, the person responsible for that is the character known from the first game, Alex Mercer. The actions of the hero of the first game caused the whole Manhattan to be swept by a plague. New York has been divided into zones: one contaminated, one transient and one free from the virus. The motives and ways of accomplishing the goal are different this time, but the gameplay is centered on the same thing – exploring New York and following the events connected with the plague. Heller is more powerful than Mercer but such was the developers' goal. The new hero is his own master and completes his own tasks with the tools similar to those of his predecessor. The mutations and their development give him powers greatly outside of any mortar's possibilities.
The story and character development has changed. Studio Radical concentrated on the flow of the game and realism (if one can speak of it in a game such as this). In Prototype 2, we won't find tasks detached from the main plot and all of the side-missions contain some information about the main mission.
